The Game Awards 2025: Every Major Winner

So The Game Awards 2025 just wrapped up and honestly, one game absolutely dominated the night. If you missed the show or just want the full breakdown of who took home the trophies, I’ve got you covered.

The Big Story: Clair Obscur Swept Everything

Let’s just get this out of the way first. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 basically owned The Game Awards this year. Like, seriously owned it. This game didn’t just win Game of the Year. It took home nine total awards out of 13 nominations. That’s a new record for The Game Awards and honestly kind of wild to see.

Here’s what Clair Obscur won:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Game Direction
  • Best Narrative
  • Best Art Direction
  • Best Score & Music
  • Best Performance (Jennifer English)
  • Best Independent Game
  • Best Debut Indie Game
  • Best RPG

Yeah. That’s a clean sweep of some of the biggest categories. If you haven’t checked this game out yet, you probably should. Clearly, it did something right.

The Other Winners Worth Talking About

While Clair Obscur dominated, other games still managed to grab some wins:

Hades II took home Best Action Game, which makes sense if you played the first one. Supergiant Games knows how to make action feel good. They also snagged Best Audio Design for Battlefield 6, which is pretty huge for that franchise.

Hollow Knight: Silksong finally won something with Best Action/Adventure. Team Cherry fans have been waiting for this game forever, and it’s good to see it getting recognized.

Some of the other category winners:

  • Fatal Fury: City of Wolves – Best Fighting Game
  • Donkey Kong Bananza – Best Family Game
  • Mario Kart World – Best Sports/Racing Game
  • Final Fantasy Tactics โ€“ The Ivalice Chronicles – Best Sim/Strategy
  • ARC Raiders – Best Multiplayer Game

The Ongoing Game Category

No Man’s Sky won Best Ongoing, which is actually pretty cool if you know that game’s redemption story. They’ve been updating that game for years and it’s nowhere near what it was at launch (in a good way).

Baldur’s Gate 3 took Best Community Support. Larian Studios has been killing it with updates and listening to players, so no surprise there.

Mobile and VR

Mobile gaming got its moment with Umamusume: Pretty Derby winning Best Mobile Game. VR went to The Midnight Walk, which I haven’t personally tried but sounds interesting.

The Player’s Voice Winner

This one’s voted entirely by players and Wuthering Waves won it. It beat out some heavy hitters including Clair Obscur and Hollow Knight: Silksong, which shows how passionate that game’s community is.

Most Anticipated Game

No surprises here. Grand Theft Auto VI won Most Anticipated Game. I mean, come on. Everyone’s waiting for that one.

The Death Stranding Situation

Here’s something kind of rough. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach got nominated for seven awards and walked away with zero wins. Not a single one. That’s gotta sting for Kojima Productions, especially when you’re up against a game like Clair Obscur that’s sweeping everything.

Esports Winners

If you’re into the competitive side:

  • Counter-Strike 2 – Best Esports Game
  • Chovy (Jeong Ji-Hoon) – Best Esports Athlete
  • Team Vitality – Best Esports Team (Counter-Strike 2)

Content Creator of the Year went to MoistCr1tikal, which honestly tracks.

Best Adaptation

The Last of Us: Season 2 won Best Adaptation. The first season was incredible, so expectations are high for the next one.

What’s Next for Gaming

The Game Awards 2025 was basically the Clair Obscur show. Setting a new record with nine wins is no joke, and it beat out some seriously tough competition. Games like Death Stranding 2, Hades II, and Hollow Knight: Silksong all had strong showings but couldn’t break through that dominance.

If you’re looking for what to play next, the awards are usually a pretty good indicator. Clair Obscur is obviously the big one to check out now, but don’t sleep on the other winners in their respective categories.

The show continues to be gaming’s biggest night, and 2025 definitely delivered some memorable moments and a few surprises. Now we wait to see what games come out next year and do it all over again.
