Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most demanding open-world games ever released on PC, and it earned that reputation honestly. The minimum spec starts at a GTX 1080 Ti, a card that was high-end just a few years ago. Most players I know were surprised to find their mid-range setup struggling more than expected. That said, the game is also notoriously well-suited to upscaling tech like DLSS and FSR, which can recover a lot of lost performance. Use the checker above to see where your rig stands.

Why Is Hogwarts Legacy So Demanding?
The short answer is Unreal Engine 4 and an extremely dense open world. Hogwarts itself is a massive, intricately detailed castle with hundreds of individual rooms, and the surrounding area โ the Highlands, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest โ all stream in simultaneously. From my experience testing the game on multiple setups, the CPU matters just as much as the GPU here, particularly when you’re running through areas with many NPCs.
The good news is that DLSS (for Nvidia) and FSR (for AMD) both work very well in this game. Most players I know running an RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT found that enabling DLSS Quality or FSR Quality let them hit 1080p/60fps on High settings without any perceptible quality loss. If you’re not using upscaling on an RTX card, you’re leaving performance on the table.
Ray tracing is available but honestly not worth enabling below an RTX 4070. The visual difference is subtle compared to the performance cost, and the base lighting in Hogwarts Legacy is already excellent.
